State Highway Patrol Investigates Potential Pre-Crash Medical Incident
According to incident reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 7:32 p.m. to Benson Hardee Road. Investigators determined that Norris was operating a westbound Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle crossed the centerline, traveled off the left side of the road, and struck a ditch and fence posts. The vehicle subsequently ruptured a gas line, and its rear caught fire before coming to a rest on the shoulder. First responders extricated Norris from the vehicle, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. State troopers noted that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors, and investigators are evaluating whether a medical condition occurred prior to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
