CHICAGO, Illinois — A 36-year-old customer was shot and killed during a violent armed robbery at a gas station in Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood early Tuesday morning.The fatal incident occurred at approximately 2:52 a.m. in the 3400 block of South California Avenue, near the Stevenson Expressway.
Shots Fled After Cash Register Robbery
According to initial reports from the Chicago Police Department, multiple offenders armed with handguns entered the Thorntons service station and confronted staff, demanding money directly from the cash register.While fleeing the business with an undisclosed amount of cash, one of the armed suspects opened fire on an innocent 36-year-old patron who was inside the store.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.First responders and emergency medical personnel dispatched to the scene confirmed the man succumbed to his injuries at the location.No additional injuries were reported among gas station personnel or other individuals present during the robbery.
Area One Detectives Launch Homicide Investigation
